Thank you for your question. Yes, if a patient transfers to ICU with ICP devices already in place, this patient should meet the numerator criteria. As indicated in the example, the patient was applied IPC on day 2 and transferred to ICU on day 4. This patient will meet the VTE-2 numerator only when if the IPC device was still in place on day 4 and/or day 5.

    • We are working to validate patient cases who did receive mechanical VTE prophylaxis, but are unsure if the timing meets the specs.

The VTE2 numerator states that the "encounter with VTE prophylaxis received on day of or day after first ICU stay or procedure". We have a few patients who had the mechanical VTE (IPC devices) ordered and applied prior to the patient going to the ICU. Please advise if the patient transfers to ICU with ICP devices already in place, does this meet the numerator criteria. Ex. patient is admitted to hospital and on day 2 is ordered and applied IPC device but goes not get upgraded to ICU until day 4. Does this case meet numerator? Thank you!
