Thank you for your question regarding CMS69 v11: Preventive Care and Screening: Body Mass Index (BMI) Screening and Follow-Up Plan. As you noted, the measure logic does not require reporting of patient height and weight to fulfil measure requirements. The guidance you cited is a note to clinicians that BMIs should be generated from heights and weights measured during the measurement period, and not historical or patient-reported data. The use of height data documented outside the measurement period would not align with that guidance.

In the Numerator definition and logic specifications, the BMI data required is documented BMI [Ratio] during the measurement period. The guidance section contains inconsistent language: "both height and weight must be measured during the measurement period." CMS69 Terminology does not contain LOINC codes for individual heights and weights, only a BMI Ratio LOINC (39156-5). Our health system has an age-specific acceptable look-back period for BMI ratio calculation and a small proportion of our BMI ratios have a height that was documented in the previous measurement period. We are seeking confirmation that a BMI ratio in the measurement period is Numerator compliant for a BMI within normal parameters. Thank you.
