Thank you for your inquiry specific to CMS871v2 Hospital Harm – Severe Hyperglycemia. You are correct; to determine the measure outcome, the total number of hyperglycemic event days during the inpatient hospitalization (which is Measure Observation 2 associated with the Numerator) is divided by the total number of eligible hospital days of the inpatient hospitalization (which is Measure Observation 1, associated with the Denominator). The number of hyperglycemic event days and the number of eligible hospital days are counted across all encounters within that measurement period and are used to calculate one overall aggregated performance rate of the measure for reporting purposes.

Using the example data you provided for 3 encounters for a specific patient, where the first 2 encounters occur in Quarter 1 and the third encounter occurs in Quarter 2, the following performance rate is calculated as follows:

      Quarter 1 Performance Rate:

Measure Observation (associated with Numerator) = 5

      Performance Rate = ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ = 27.8%

Measure Observation (associated with Denominator) = 18

      Quarter 2 Performance Rate:
Measure Observation (associated with Numerator) = 1

      Performance Rate = ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ = 14.3%

Measure Observation (associated with Denominator) = 7

      We hope this helps.

      Hi team,

We would require some clarity regarding the calculation of performance rate of measure CMS871v2- Severe Hyperglycemia.

In the measure guidance it is mentioned that to determine the measure outcome, the total number of hyperglycemic days during the inpatient hospitalization is divided by the total number of eligible hospital days of the inpatient hospitalization.

Our question here is, while submitting data quarter wise should we consider multiple inpatient hospitalization encounters in a measurement period while evaluating the measure to achieve total number of hyperglycemic events or it is just the hyperglycemic events which has occurred in specific encounter during the quarter.

Incase hyperglycemic events are considered for each inpatient hospitalization encounter, we have further questions as below.

If the patient has multiple hospitalizations, for example 3 encounters and each encounter has respective associated numerator and denominator measure observations as per the screen shot below.

Consider first two inpatient hospitalizations occurred in quarter 1 and third inpatient hospitalization occurred in quarter 2.

We would like to understand how the ultimate measure outcome is calculated here. As we are submitting data quarter wise.
