Thanks for your inquiry on CMS190v12: Intensive Care Unit Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis. The patient was readmitted to the ICU as a Deceased Donor and stayed for a couple of day in the hospital most likely be put in comfort measure. If so, you would use an appropriate code from Comfort Measures (OID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.33895.1.3.0.45) value set to get this patient excluded from the measures.

    • This patient is showing as a fall out for meeting ICU VTE eCQM measure

An inpatient was initially admitted to our hospital and SCDs were placed timely. Later during the stay the patient unfortunately expired.
The patient was readmitted to the ICU as a Deceased Donor – One Legacy patient, and discharged again some days later. During this admission, there was no documentation of SCD placement since the patient was deceased and just being worked up for organ procurement. We are not seeing any exclusion criteria for this kind of case. Nor are we seeing the patient must be alive to meet criteria in the eCQM definition. Should this patient be included in the ICU VTE eCQM? Is there an exclusion for this kind of case? Please advise.
