Thank you for your question on CMS108, Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis .

According to the provided scenario, the patient received Eliquis on the day of admission and had a noted history of a-fib on 6/8. This should satisfy the numerator condition below -

Encounter with Medication Oral Factor Xa Inhibitor Administered on Day of or Day After Admission or Procedure"
intersect ( "Encounter with Prior or Present Diagnosis of Atrial Fibrillation or Prior Diagnosis of VTE"

Please confirm that AtrialFibrillation prevalencePeriod time is reported as "starts on or before end of encounter".

I'm being asked to review the denominator (fallouts) for our VTE-1 cases, and am finding conflicting information on whether Eliquis is acceptable for DVT prophylaxis.

First day of hospitalization is 6/14. Pt received Eliquis 6/14 2135.

Pt noted with afib on earlier visit 6/8, no surgeries this visit.

Some resources I find state Factor Xa inhibitor is acceptable, others state it's acceptable only with certain surgeries, and yet another states it's not acceptable at all.

Is Eliquis acceptable, and would this case pass the measure?

      Thanks
