Patients are incorrectly identified as not having glucose of >1000 present as admission.
Point of Care meters often used when patient first presents to ED or for hospital admission do not have the specificity of a serum glucose. A POC meter may read out to a limit of >600 where the serum glucose will report out the actual value above 600.
