      Brief Description of Measure:
CMS69: Preventive Care and Screening: Body Mass Index (BMI) Screening and Follow-Up Plan

Percentage of patients aged 18 years and older with a BMI documented during the current encounter or during the measurement period AND who had a follow-up plan documented if BMI was outside of normal parameters

      Description of Issue:
Preventive Care and Screening: Body Mass Index (BMI) Screening and Follow-Up Plan has a denominator exclusion for patients who are pregnant at any time during the measurement period. The measure currently uses the "Pregnancy Obstetric or Maternal Diagnoses" value set (OID: 2.16.840.1.113883.3.600.1.1623) to capture this exclusion. We propose to replace this value set with a value set named "Pregnancy" (OID: 2.16.840.1.113883.3.526.3.378). There is significant overlap between the two value sets. The proposed updated value set is more comprehensive. Other measures use the proposed value set, allowing for measure implementers to harmonize the codes used.

      Proposed Solution:
The measure currently uses a Mathematica-stewarded value set "Pregnancy Obstetric or Maternal Diagnoses" (OID: 2.16.840.1.113883.3.600.1.1623). We propose to replace this value set with the “Pregnancy” value set (OID: 2.16.840.1.113883.3.526.3.378) that is stewarded by the American Heart Association.

      Rationale for Change:
Harmonization of value sets across measures, where possible, will simplify use of measures for implementers.
