Thank you for your inquiry on CMS108v11/VTE-1: Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis. Per VTE-1 measure numerator conditions, patient satisfying either one of the following conditions will be passing the measure numerator.
"Encounter with No VTE Prophylaxis Due to Medical Reason" OR
"Encounter with No VTE Prophylaxis Due to Patient Refusal".
Therefore, to meet "Encounter with No VTE Prophylaxis Due to Medical Reason", documentations for both

No pharmacological VTE prophylaxis AND no mechanical VTE prophylaxis are required.

But for "Encounter with No VTE Prophylaxis Due to Patient Refusal", a documentation for either

No pharmacological VTE prophylaxis OR no mechanical VTE prophylaxis will satisfy the numerator.

    • Determination if VTE-1 "reason for no vte prophylaxis" documentation can pass measure or not, and if cases are being pulled appropriately for numerator and denominator.

Our standard "Reason for no vte prophylaxis" order makes no discernment for either pharmacological OR mechanical VTE prophylaxis; it functions as a coverall for both.

Is this acceptable to pass the measure? Or, does each order have to address which form of "no VTE prophylaxis - either pharmacological or mechanical?

I imagine it has to address each form; however I need confirmation before initiating the process of adjustments.

      Thanks very much.
