Thank you for your inquiry about to CMS986v2 Global Malnutrition Composite Score (GMCS). At present, the intent of the logic is to include only encounters that begin and end during the measurement period. For program year 2025, the measure developer will review the measure logic and consider an update to include encounters that end during the measurement period. We hope this helps.

    • Inpatient encounters that span quarter or year boundaries will not be selected.

For measure CMS986v2, Global Malnutrition Composite Score, we noticed that the Initial Patient Population requires the entire inpatient encounter (INP) relevant period to be in the measurement period (MP). Usually measures require INP to end during the MP but do not require the start of the INP to be in the MP.

Please see definition Global Malnutrition Encounter:
...and EncounterInpatient.relevantPeriod during day of "Measurement Period"

We process data in quarters, and this logic would not count encounters that span either the start or end of the MP. Is this the measure intent?
