Thank you for your inquiry specific to CMS986v2 Global Malnutrition Composite Score (GMCS).

No specific malnutrition screening tools are recommended for use to satisfy component measure 1-malnutrition screening currently; however, it is recommended that implementers utilize a valid and reliable screening tool.

At present, only the Nutrition Risk Screening 2002 (NRS-2002) and the general nutrition risk screening code (LOINC, 84291-4, Nutrition and dietetics Risk assessment and screening note) exist in LOINC. If you are utilizing a screening tool other than the NRS-2002, we recommend use of the general code (LOINC, 84291-4). We are currently working to expand this list of options to include additional valid and reliable nutrition screening tools.

The 2024 value set for Malnutrition Risk Screening appears to only contain LOINC codes for the NRS-2002 Nutritional Risk Screening 2002 Panel.  Does this change require only this screening tool to be used for the 2024 eCQM?  Or may hospitals utilize any standardized, validated malnutrition risk screening tool?

      Thank you!
