The patient will meet the measure criteria as long as there is documentation of essential hypertension diagnosis within the specified timeframe. The essential hypertension diagnosis code is any code from the value set "Essential Hypertension" (https://vsac.nlm.nih.gov/valueset/2.16.840.1.113883.3.464.1003.104.12.1011/expansion/eCQM%20Update%202022-05-05) and the timeframe could either start before and continue into, or start during the first six months of the measurement period.

    • need to understand if the specificity changes the measure?

      For a patient with an initial diagnosis of hypertension, if the primary diagnosis gets updated for something more specific, such as Chronic Kidney Disease w/ hypertension, does the hypertension become secondary? How does that work for coding up to the highest specification diagnosis?
