Clarification on the term "Primary Care" encounter

      Thank you for your inquiry on CMS2v11: Preventive Care and Screening: Screening for Depression and Follow-Up Plan. The term "Primary Care" encounter is not used in this measure. The denominator is populated from the ‘Initial Population’, which is described as "All patients aged 12 years and older at the beginning of the measurement period with at least one ’eligible encounter’ during the measurement period". The value sets used to define these eligible encounters are: "Encounter to Screen for Depression" (2.16.840.1.113883.3.600.1916) and "Physical Therapy Evaluation" (2.16.840.1.113883.3.526.3.1022).

      Click on the “Search Value Sets” tab in the VSAC and enter the value set ID to review codes included in the respective value set

       
      The measure uses specifications that can be found at the eCQI Resource Center https://ecqi.healthit.gov/ and values found in the Value Set Authority Center (VSAC) https://vsac.nlm.nih.gov , where you can reference the appropriate codes containing the relevant value sets.

      The initial population states "All patients in the Target population aged 12 years an older at the beginning of the measurement period with at least one eligible primary care encounter during the measurement year". Can you please define a "Primary Care" encounter?
