Thank you for your inquiry specific to CMS157v12 (Oncology: Medical and Radiation - Pain Intensity Quantified). For patients receiving radiation therapy, the intent of measure CMS157 is pain intensity should be quantified at each radiation treatment management encounter. Each time CPT code 77427 is billed, there should be a pain assessment performed on the actual billing date or within six days before the billing date. The look-back period includes non-business days.

    • Providers are being negatively impacted on the way their EHR has set up this measure.

I have a question regarding the quality measure Oncology: Medical and Radiation - Pain Intensity Quantified measure 143. Does the 7day look back need to include the actual encounter that the patient was given radiation treatment (the business days that the practice is open when they receive the treatment) or do you include non- business days in that look 7day look back period? I am asking because it seems that our EMR is including days that we do not have business hours in that 7day look back.
