Thank you for your inquiry regarding CMS871v2 Hospital Harm – Severe Hyperglycemia. To determine the measure outcome, the total number of hyperglycemic days during the inpatient hospitalization (which is the Measure Observation 2 associated with the Numerator) is divided by the total number of eligible hospital days of the inpatient hospitalization (which is the Measure Observation 1, associated with the Denominator).

Using your example encounter numbers, if the patient had only one encounter during the measurement period (Enc No 1), then the measure outcome would be calculated as: See image 1 below.

If the same patient had three hospitalizations during the measurement period (Enc No 1, 2, and 3), then the outcomes from each encounter are evaluated together to determine the measure outcome in total. See image 2 below.

      Hi team,

We would require some clarity regarding the calculation of performance rate of measure CMS871v2- Severe Hyperglycemia.

In the measure guidance it is mentioned that to determine the measure outcome, the total number of hyperglycemic days during the inpatient hospitalization is divided by the total number of eligible hospital days of the inpatient hospitalization.

Our question here is, should we consider multiple inpatient hospitalization encounters in a measurement period while evaluating the measure to achieve total number of hyperglycemic events or it is just the hyperglycemic events which has occurred in one specific encounter.

Incase hyperglycemic events are considered for each inpatient hospitalization encounter, we have further questions as below.

If the patient has multiple hospitalizations, for example 3 encounters and each encounter has respective associated numerator and denominator measure observations as per the screen shot below.

We would like to understand how the ultimate measure outcome is calculated here?
