    • Thank you for your question. The logic for the numerator in AMI-10 was updated during the April 2014 annual update to revise the timing relationship from “during” to “starts during”.

In AMI2 and 10, when the logic looks for 'Medication, Discharge' it uses the temporal check 'starts during' encounter, for example, in the numerator of AMI2:

AND: "Medication, Discharge: Hospital Measures-Aspirin" starts during "Occurrence A of Encounter, Performed: Hospital Measures-Encounter Inpatient"

However, in VTE3 and 5, it only uses 'during', for example from the denominator logic of VTE5:

AND: "Medication, Discharge: Warfarin" during "Occurrence A of Encounter, Performed: Inpatient Encounter"

During requires that the start and end times of the Medication both be within the encounter, where Starts During only requires that the start time of the medication occur within the encounter. This discrepancy in VTE could result in medications not qualifying as discharge medications when they should?

ALSO: In AMI2 there is inconsistancy in looking for medication, discharge... the check for warfarin in AMI2 uses only "during" where the check for Aspirin uses "Starts during"
