Thank you for suggestion for CMS22: Preventive Care and Screening: Screening for High Blood Pressure and Follow-Up Documented. We will take this under consideration for the next annual update.

Accurate measure submission
As an Emergency Medical group who is interested in submitting on the eCQM CMS22v11, I would like some clarification on the denominator population. It would seem appropriate that the denominator exceptions populations, at least for Emergency physicians, would include all admitted patients as nearly all acutely ill patients requiring hospitalization would not be appropriate candidates for this follow up instruction. Can you provide clarification on this issue? I do see that in the exception population there is instruction “ Documentation of medical reason(s) for not screening for high blood pressure (e.g., patient is in an urgent or emergent medical situation where time is of the essence and to delay treatment would jeopardize the patient's health status).
However this seems overly burdensome on the treating physician. Should there be an exemption for admitted patients from the Emergency Department?
