      Brief description of measure
      CMS124: Cervical Cancer Screening:
      Percentage of women 21-64 years of age who were screened for cervical cancer using either of the following criteria:
        *  Women age 21-64 who had cervical cytology performed within the last 3 years
        *  Women age 30-64 who had cervical human papillomavirus (HPV) testing performed within the last 5 years.

      Description of issue
      The measure steward received feedback that the current numerator header language related to the cervical cytology age requirements is confusing. The measure assesses female patients who are 24 years of age by the end of the measurement period. However, the cervical cytology can be performed between the ages of 21 and 24. The current measure language is confusing as it introduces a different lower age limit. The measure developer proposes revising language to better align with the description, but also clearly explain the allowable timeframe for the cervical cytology to be performed.

      Goal of review
      Obtain clinical feedback

      Proposed solution
      CMS124 Numerator Header language
      //Before
      *  Cervical cytology performed during the measurement period or the two years prior to the measurement period for women who are at least 21 years old at the time of the test

      //After
      *  Cervical cytology performed during the measurement period or the two years prior to the measurement period for women 24-64 years of age by the end of the measurement period

      Rationale for change
      Revising the numerator language will provide clarity with regard to the age requirements for cervical cytology.
