Thank you for your question. For Safe Use of Opioids - Concurrent Prescribing - CMS506v5 published in May 2022, we removed all buprenorphine/naloxone combination medications, such as suboxone, from the Schedule II & III Opioid Medications value set (2.16.840.1.113762.1.4.1111.16), which is used to identify both the denominator and numerator patients. Our intent is to avoid disincentivizing evidence-based treatment of opioid use disorder. Given this vale set update, patients receiving only suboxone should not be in the measure.
Please let us know if you have additional questions.

    • Patients falling into the numerator (non-compliant)

Suboxone strengths are not available in 10mg, which are frequently prescribed at discharge. Therefore physicians have to order a 2mg AND 8mg tablet causing patients to fall into the numerator. Why. if this is an acceptable treatment for patients with an opioid dependence? Or can this be a considered update for Opioid-Concurrent Prescribing specifications in the future?
