      ​Thank you for your inquiry on CMS108, Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis and CMS190, Intensive Care Unit Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis. At this time, there is no approved indication to use Apixaban for venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis with the exception of patients who have undergone hip or knee replacement surgery. The measure specifications are consistent with the approved indications for Apixaban. If the FDA-approved indications for apixaban should change in the future to include all hospitalized medical and surgical patients, then the measure specifications will be updated.

      Providers are asking the question of why apixaban can be prescribed as a VTE prophylaxis with an appropriate diagnosis of atrial fibrillation and meet eCQM measures CMS108v10 or CMS190v10 but without the diagnosis of atrial fibrillation fails the measure. Can you please provide a detailed explanation for this?
