      Thank you for your question. Use of both the datatypes "Device, applied" and "Procedure, performed", was intended to insure that if another surgery is performed where a pacemaker or other device is applied, it will be picked up whether it's documented as the procedure itself, or as the device being applied. In the April 1, 2013 measure update, the Device value set list has been changed to SNOMED only, as the vocabulary standard for Device is now SNOMED. There are no longer any ICD9 codes associated with this data element in this measure.

      I am having difficulties trying to determine what the difference is between Hospital Measures Pacemaker or Implantable Defibrillator Device vs Hospital Measures Pacemaker or Implantable Defibrillator procedure. Device is looking for a ICD9 code and the procedure is looking at snomed codes. Further explanation of the differences of Device vs procedure would be appreciated. Thank you, Nancy
