      Thank you for your responses.

We agree that the intent of the measure is to include the patient in the numerator, given that they were taking two distinct opioids upon discharge. We looked further into reasons why the RxNorm code 864799 METHADONE HYDROCHLORIDE 65 MG PER 20 ML ORAL SOLUTION was not included in the value set and found that the Safe Use of Opioids value set Schedule II & III Opioid Medications (2.16.840.1.113762.1.4.1111.165) does not contain 864799 (3.25 MG/ML Oral Solution) because the code became obsolete in 2020. We suggest you check with your EHR vendor to make sure your system has the most up to date RxNorm codes.

    • Patients are not Qualifying for the numerator with concurrent prescribing

We are seeing patients continued on maintenance Methadone 65mg and Oxycodone 5mg newly prescribed at discharge. These patients are not qualifying for the numerator. The highest dosage in the Schedule II & III Opioid Medications Value Set is 40mg.
