Thank you for your follow-up question on CMS108, Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis (VTE-1) and CMS190, Intensive Care Unit Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis (VTE-2). Similar to Medication Administered, each Device Applied instance should be reported individually, as each instance has a start datetime and stop datetime. Each device application will be evaluated individually based on each application start datetime.

    • Clarification around the expected reporting for VTE 1 and VTE 2 in 2022

This is additional questions related to JIRA CQM-5181 which has been closed

In the below scenario you indicated that you would expect 2 Device applied outcomes.
      1. For VTE 1 (inpatient visit) - based on scenario would not meet.
      2. For VTE 2 (ICU visit) - based on scenario would meet

We understood the Device Applied for QDM 5.5 to be first on and last off based on the guidance documentation. So for the scenario below we expect one Device Applied data element to be included in the QRDA1 file to include first ON to be 04-27 as startdate and last OFF to be 05-15. Is this the correct interpretation of the guidance for 2022 reporting?

      Scenario
Title - Device, Applied relevant period clarification
Description - According to the Logic Guidance the startTime for device applied is when the device was first used and the stopTime is when the device is last used.

In the following scenario, would you expect 2 device applied data elements for the encounter, or just one device applied data element?

      Inpatient start: 2021-04-24 19:09
      Device ON: (first) 2021-04-27 20:26
      Device OFF: 2021-04-28 09:24
      ICU start: 2021-05-07 12:32

Device ON again: (second) 2021-05-08 03:00
      ICU end: 2021-05-09 12:32
      Device OFF again: 2021-05-15 08:00
      Inpatient end: 2021-05-15 18:50
