Thank you for your inquiry for CMS130v10 (2022 Performance Period), Colorectal Cancer Screening. The eCQM does not require information about the location or performer of the FOBT, or 'where the test is read'. The measure criteria for FOBT can be met if the patient had an FOBT laboratory test of any result performed during the measurement period, as documented by electronic health record data.

Specific types of FOBT are defined in the eCQM specifications (CMS130v10 eCQM Human-Readable HTML Format: https://ecqi.healthit.gov/sites/default/files/ecqm/measures/CMS130v10.html). They include any of the LOINC codes listed in the following value set ‘Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT), such as LOINC 2335-8 (Hemoglobin.gastrointestinal [Presence] in Stool): https://vsac.nlm.nih.gov/valueset/2.16.840.1.113883.3.464.1003.198.12.1011/expansion/eCQM%20Update%202021-05-06.

A practice wrote in asking if, for an FOBT, whether the test needs to be read by a laboratory or if the testing card and be read by a clinician in a physician's office? There is no specific guidance regarding where the test is read and specific type of FOBT, can you advise?

The practice has a good portion of patients who are hesitant to proceed with either Colonoscopy or Cologuard, the more invasive tests.
