Thank you for your question. You are correct, these value sets do not contain the brand names for the medications, but that is intentional. The medication value sets developed for the program contain RxNorm codes that are Semantic Clinical Drugs (SCD), generic, and prescribable. We explicitly exclude brand name drugs from the value sets. In order to satisfy the measure, you would need to map your local brand name drugs to the appropriate generic code. You can find more information about this in the eCQM Logic and Implementation Guidance located here:

https://ecqi.healthit.gov/sites/default/files/eCQM-Logic-and-Guidance-v5.pdf in the section titled “Drug Representations Used in Value Sets”.

When entering allergies on patients, brand names are often used. The value set for statin allergy in CMS105v10, Allergy/Intolerance: Statin Allergen using Statin Allergen (2.16.840.1.113762.1.4.1110.42), does not allow for the mapping of brand names, only generic.

Allergies documented on patients as a brand name are not being captured for the measure. These patients should be excluded, but are not due to the lack of allergy mapping.
