Thank you for your inquiry regarding CMS2v10: Preventive Care and Screening: Screening for Depression and Follow-Up Plan. Per the measure specification, the measure requires use of a normalized and validated depression screening tool developed for the patient population in which it is being utilized. The measure's definition section does list examples of depression screening tools; however, this list is not meant to be exhaustive. Therefore, the NCCN Distress Thermometer is an appropriate standardized depression screening tool that meets numerator requirements.

    • Update CMS2 screener mapping to include NCCN Distress Thermometer assessment as available depression screener within our Epic build. Update the eCQI definition section to include NCCN Distress Thermometer assessment as a listed example.

We would like to receive clarification that the NCCN Distress Thermometer assessment meets measure intent, similar to those seen within "Examples of standardized depression screening tools include.." seen within the "Definition" section in eCQI for v10. Previously, this screener was described as not meeting measure intent for depression screening. On 11/16/21, CMS shared with RO participants that this screener has been verified as an appropriate screener for CMS2. We would like to include it within our CMS2 build outside of RO model participating locations. can you please provide guidance on inclusion now that CMS has offered this update?
