Thank you for your question related to CMS2 (Preventive Care and Screening: Screening for Depression and Follow-Up Plan) and CMS159 (Depression Remission).

First, as it relates to CMS2, we appreciate your feedback regarding the use of ICD-10 code F32.A "Depression, unspecified." We will evaluate the appropriateness of this population being excluded from the measure denominator to determine if this code should be added to the Depression diagnosis value set (2.16.840.1.113883.3.600.145) during the current Annual Update cycle.

Specific to CMS159, while we appreciate that the ICD-10 code F32.A is sometimes used instead of F32.9, the intent of the measure is to include only people with a diagnosis of major depression or dysthymia. We do not intend to include F32.A in the measure because its definition of depression is too general to define the denominator population.

New ICD10 code F32.A – Depression, Unspecified is not within the value sets, therefore when utilized that population will not accurately be excluded from CMS 2 and be removed from initial population of CMS 159.

Are you aware of this new code and is there a potential solution.
