However, if a patient had an ED visit within 1 hour prior to hospital admission, the measure will include the ED visit time into the time calculation. Also, the Global.Hospitalization(Encounter “Encounter, Performed”) function factors in an ED visit into the Hospitalization period. Finally, specific to the definition of “Intervention Comfort Measures on Day of or Day After Start of Hospitalization”, if a patient had an intervention comfort measure during an ED visit, then the case would satisfy the measure logic.
In summary, an ED visit is NOT a requirement for VTE-1 and VTE-2. However, if the patient had an ED visit, information from the visit is needed to fully assess whether the measure logic is satisfied.
