Hospital Settings does not include Nursing Homes, Skilled Nursing Facilities, Assisted Living Facilities, or Independent Living Facilities. Hospital settings include: 1) patients transferred from any other emergency department or observation unit OUTSIDE of your hospital and 2) transferred patients to your hospital from an outside hospital where they were an inpatient or outpatient.

Not sure of value set used for Ed measures. The new ED-1 and ED-2 measures talk about excluding patient that present to the ED from another hospital setting. The exact statement is as such : "Emergency department encounters being transferred from another hospital setting (any different facility, even if part of the same hospital system)" It references data criteria: "Transfer From: Hospital Settings" using "Hospital Settings SNOMEDCT Value Set (2.16.840.1.113762.1.4.1111.126)" The Value Set reference above (included) has a detail list of 'hospital settings'. Many of these are vague. Several are undefinable when asked for examples. Our Questions is: Do these items in this values set translate to include: • Nursing Homes • Skilled Nursing Facilities • Assisted Living Facilities • Independent Living Facilities We are attempting to make modification to our processes based on the answer to these questions.
