The HEDIS Expert Laboratory Panel previously reviewed LOINC code 17855-8 for consideration and determined it should not be included in the value sets to identify HbA1c because the code represents a calculated value rather than a measured value. Conversion formulas for calculated values may not be consistent across laboratories and calculated results can differ from measured results by up to two percent. Therefore, LOINC codes for calculated results are not used for HEDIS reporting.

    • Patients whom have had a Hemoglobin A1c lab test completed during the measurement period that are populating erroneously in this measures numerator.

Hemoglobin A1c Poor Control measure and seeking information as to why the “Hemoglobin A1c/Hemoglobin Total in Blood by Calculation” LOINC code 17855-8 was removed from the value set of applicable A1c laboratory tests for this measure. We are wondering if this is in relation to the previous issues CMS/NQF had with the CMS 122/NQF 0059 report and excluding it in previous years due to reporting issues?
