For CMS127, we are only interested in codes that are specific to 13 and 23 valent vaccines. CVX100 is for a 7 valent vaccine. CVX152 and 109 have unspecific formulation. Therefore, we have excluded them from the measure.

The CDC provides a list for all active and inactive CVX codes. For Measure reporting, it's required that you use the codes that are specified in the measure.

    • Providers are negatively impacted on the numerator performance due to this issue.

According the the Valueset provided for CMS147, CMS127 there are a set of CVX codes that we are supposed to use to evaluate performance criteria for Influenza and Pneumonia measure. However, there are additional CVX codes allowed by immunization registries that providers use which are not a part of eCQM value sets. In case of CMS147, one of the active and valid CVX codes (Reference: Center for Disease Control and Prevention Website) is 171. However, this CVX code is not a part of eCQM Value sets that some of our clients are using. If there are codes such as these that are valid and applicable for the practices to report to their state immunization registry then can we also use these code sets when determining their performance for quality measures such as CMS147.

Also, CMS127 pneumococcal vaccine looks for vaccine being done once ever in the patient's lifetime. There are many CVX codes that were active in the past (example: 133, 100, 152, 33, 109) that could be used to define performance for providers, however eCQM valueset only includes only 33, 133. For those providers who had given this vaccination in the past that were mapped to CVX codes other than 33, 133, performance will get negatively impacted.

Finally, given the situation above, if certain CVX codes are available through Center for Disease Control and Prevention, can we also use them for final measure performance calculation even though they may not be a part of eCQM Value sets??
