Thank you for your question. The purpose of this measure is to find patients with a diagnosis of HIV, and a CD4+ count below a certain threshold who were prescribed PCP prophylaxis in response to the results of the CD4+ laboratory test. Please let us know if you think there are scenarios in which the patient will already be on the PCP prophylaxis before the CD4+ count.

      QUESTION:

For CMS52v3 & CMS52v4 Numerator, we reviewed both measure versions and numerator appears to only be interested in ‘Medication, Order’ and NOT already existing ‘Medication, Active’ prior to a qualifying CD4 test result . Most measures if intended to include already active medications prior to an event is typically indicates an OR/Union condition for ‘Medication, Active’. However, for this measure we are not seeing this in specification. Thus, we want to ensure only qualifying medication ordered (prescribed) AFTER the lab test should count.
