Thank you for your question. In the eCQM, Emergency Department is captured by codes listed in the Emergency Department Visit (2.16.840.1.113883.3.117.1.7.1.292) which includes one code: 452004 Emergency department patient visit (procedure). Therefore, if these patients are truly ED visits they should be included in the measure, as OB patients are not excluded.

      Question regarding ED-1 (CMS 55) and ED-2 (CMS 111):
Our OB/ Mother-Baby Unit has an OB-ED where patients are assessed and triaged either to Labor&Delivery or discharged home.
This OB-ED is totally separate from our main Emergency Department (in separate buildings on campus).
The OB-ED patients are assigned an EM code, and so have been included in the patient population for the manually abstracted ED-1 and ED-2 measures.
Do the eCQM specifications include patients assigned an EM code, or is the CMS expectation that the eCQMs will capture patients treated in the main ED?
The patients seen in the OB-ED are processed entirely differently (much faster) than those patients seen in the main ED and including them in our reporting really skews the median times.
Thank you and looking forward to your response.
