Thank you for your question. The USPSTF guidelines allow for chlamydia tests to be done using vaginal swabs. While these guidelines allow for rectal and pharyngeal swabs, these methods have not been approved by the FDA. Anal chlamydia tests are also excluded from the HEDIS 2016 code list. Hence, these tests are excluded from the measure.

The anal chlamydia SNOMED codes are part of the denominator logic to identify patients that are sexually active.

    • Unable to determine whether an Anal Chlamydia lab test should count for a NQF 0033.

For Value Set 2.16.840.1.113883.3.464.1003.110.12.1052 (Chlamydia Screening), is the intent to exclude Anal Chlamydia tests and only consider Genital Chlamydia tests performed, or should Anal Chlamydia lab test loincs be included in this value set? To me, the inclusion of Anal Chlamydia SNOMED codes (186731007 - Chlamydial infection of anus and rectum (disorder)) in the Chlamydia value set (2.16.840.1.113883.6.96) indicate that we are looking at the whole body for existence of Chlamydia, rather than only the genitals.
