For a patient that is screened and identified as a tobacco user, there are three options to report successful performance of this measure:
1. the provider can report any of the codes associated with the value set titled, “Tobacco Use Cessation Counseling” to capture the concept that a patient was counseled about tobacco cessation within the current measurement period or the prior measurement period (within 24 months of the measurement end date), which has the following OID: 2.16.840.1.113883.3.526.3.509; this value set encompasses more than the administrative ‘billing’ codes. A provider is not required to bill one of the smoking cessation codes, and a discussion less than 3 minutes will meet the measure.
2. the provider can report any of the codes associated with the value set titled, “Tobacco Use Cessation Pharmacotherapy” to capture the concept that the patient was actively taking a tobacco cessation pharmacotherapy medication within the current measurement period or the prior measurement period (within 24 months of the measurement end date), which has the following OID: 2.16.840.1.113883.3.526.3.1190
3. the provider can report any of the codes associated with the value set titled, “Tobacco Use Cessation Pharmacotherapy” to capture the concept that the patient was ordered a tobacco cessation pharmacotherapy medication within the current measurement period or the prior measurement period (within 24 months of the measurement end date), which has the following OID: 2.16.840.1.113883.3.526.3.1190
