Considering potential clinical applications that incorporate HL7 FHIR, this exercise reviewed QDM in the context of existing HL7 FHIR implementations. These implementations are based on the FHIR Argonaut project (http://argonautwiki.hl7.org/index.php?title=Main_Page). Argonaut is a private sector initiative to advance industry adoption of modern, open interoperability standards. The purpose of the Argonaut Project is to rapidly develop a first-generation FHIR-based API and Core Data Services specification to enable expanded information sharing for electronic health records and other health information technology based on Internet standards and architectural patterns and styles. The Argonaut data elements are also based on the ONC Common Clinical Data Set (CCDS).
Argonaut implementations are based on FHIR DSTU 2.0 with some movement to FHIR 3.0 using the constraints of the FHIR US Core 3.0 publication. A directory of FHIR versions is located at http://hl7.org/fhir/directory.html.
To determine the feasibility of creating measures restricted to information available in the Argonaut implementations, the ESAC team mapped QDM to the Argonaut data with reference to the CCDS. This mapping is available for review and comment by the QDM User Group.
