Supply may not be a valid metadata element (attribute) for current medications or medication recommendations. It is a concept consistent with the ordering and dispensing activities. Requesting information about supply in other contexts will likely fail to retrieve information from existing clinical records. Thus, removing the attribute may support feasibility and reliability of eCQMs.

Requesting information about supply in other contexts will likely fail to retrieve information from existing clinical records. Thus, removing the attribute may support feasibility and reliability of eCQMs.

QDM includes an attribute "supply" for the following QDM datatypes:
      • Medication, Active
      • Immunization, Administered
      • Medication, Administered
      • Substance, Administered
      • Medication, Discharge
      • Medication, Dispensed
      • Immunization, Order
      • Medication, Order
      • Substance, Order
      • Substance, Recommended

The HL7 Clinical Quality Information Work Group recently reviewed mappings from QDM to the HL7 FHIR and QI Core resources to ensure clear coordination and availability of metadata required for expressing eCQMs and clinical decision support artifacts. The following QDM datatypes include a supply attribute but the HL7 FHIR resources do not address supply. In most of these cases, the supply would not be known:
Medication, Active (uses HL7 FHIR MedicationStatement resource which is documentation of medications currently being taken by or administered to a patient http://hl7.org/fhir/medicationstatement.html)
Medication, Administered (uses HL7 FHIR MedicationStatement resource which is documentation of medications currently being taken by or administered to a patient)
Substance, Administered ((uses HL7 FHIR MedicationStatement resource which is documentation of medications currently being taken by or administered to a patient)
Immunization (uses HL7 FHIR Immunization Resource: http://hl7.org/fhir/immunization.html)

To the QDM User Group: Should the "supply" attribute be removed from the following (but retained for Medication, Dispensed and Medication, Order and, perhaps Substance, Order)
      Medication, Active
      Medication, Discharge
      Medication, Administered
      Substance, Administered
      Substance, Recommended
      Immunization, Administered
