We are updating the logic for CMS 347 (Statin Therapy for the Prevention and Treatment of Cardiovascular Disease). The segment of proposed logic for the denominator exception is:
"Medication, Order not done: Medical Reason" for "Statin Allergen"
The logic for the numerator is:
"Medication, Order: Statin" during the "Measurement Period"
'The rationale behind using the "Statin Allergen" value set instead of the more detailed "Statin" is that it makes more sense to say you are not prescribing Lipitor (which covers many different prescribable drugs) because of an allergy (the Medical Reason value set), rather than choosing from a much longer list and saying you aren’t prescribing Atorvastatin 10mg (or 20mg, etc.) because of an allergy.'
Is it appropriate to use the "Statin Allergen" value set for one and "Statin" value set for the other when it appears they should be related to each other?
