      • We are unsure of what the developer means when they state “In the measure numerator, the logic currently only includes “Intervention, Order: Moderation of ETOH Consumption Recommendation” with plans to test “Intervention, Performed: Moderation of ETOH Consumption Recommendation” logic. This is because it is an unlikely occurrence that entering "Order" into the EHR when recommending that the patient reduce their alcohol consumption to moderate levels.
Even if there were potential for an EHR system to automate this order for an AUDIT-C meeting a certain threshold, it would require additional EHR customization on a per facility basis.
      • As for adding “Intervention, Performed?” Should the effort to enter “Intervention, Order: Moderation of ETOH Consumption Recommendation,” were imposed, then “Intervention, Performed?” would be marked as "Complete" having occurred or attempted to occur.
      • The addition of “Intervention, Performed”? encourages a more complete process measure, rather than only documenting that an order was placed. However, because it would require multiple extra steps in the EHR, it could become problematic. Should the staff responsible for collecting this information be alcohol or drug counselors, then the ordering provider is not going to be the service provider. However, in circumstances where the provider provides brief intervention, this additional logic would create more burden as the individual ordering and providing the service, they would have to complete all the steps required to capture the intervention order and the intervention performed.
