An exclusion for Hospice has been added to all NCQA measures to ensure patients from all hospice settings are excluded. To ensure identification of as many hospice patients as possible, we included both inpatient and outpatient hospice logic. If a particular EHR does not have the necessary fields to implement a portion of the logic, they should still implement the parts of the logic they can to ensure hospice patients are excluded.

While attempting to implement CMS 139 for the 2018 edition, we noticed there is now a Denominator Exclusion and it includes Discharge Status, which is not typically a field that exists in outpatient software as ONC/CMS certification has never required it for outpatient software. How is software for EPs supposed to handle this calculation or has this measure become an EH-only measure for 2018?
