Thank you for your inquiry on CMS109, Intensive Care Unit Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis. Yes, boarding inpatients in the ICU due to bed availability will put those patients in the VTE-2 measure's denominator, as eCARE and EPIC had confirmed. As indicated in the measure specification, patients meet the denominator exception if their ICU stay is less than one day. In terms of the audit part of your question, we are not able to provide an answer. We suggest you discuss this with your quality reporting team at your facility.

We are a CAH and often board inpatients in our ICU due to bed availability. eCARE and EPIC have confirmed the mapping and logic is correct. Any patient on an ICU floor will fall into the VTE 2 initial population, despite their actual status as the logic is mapped to the department and not accommodation code.

I just want to confirm its expected and there would be no issue if there was ever an audit?
