It was noted in the FY 2020 Final Rule that facilities should consider participating in one of the two voluntary reporting periods to provide feedback on the specification, confirm mapping and extraction of data elements, as well as, improved quality assurance. However, it has also been stated that hospital feedback reports will be received spring of 2023 for the initial reporting period 7/2021 - 6/2022. This will only be a few months prior to the mandatory reporting period that will begin 7/2023. Additionally, those that choice to participate in the second voluntary reporting period will not receive feedback until spring 2024 well into the first mandatory reporting period (starting 7/2023) and just a few months prior to the end of this period. That does not provide facilities with enough time to evaluate outcomes and implement changes to their system if they identify data capture issues. With that, would it be appropriate to reconsider the initial mandatory reporting period start to allow for facilities to achieve what was listed as beneficial reasons for participating in the voluntary reporting period?
