Per the specifications: "1. If the patient was a direct admission, the logic supports extraction of the FIRST resulted vital signs (physical exams) within 2 hours (120 minutes) after the start of the inpatient admission, and the FIRST resulted laboratory tests within 24 hours (1440 minutes) after the start of the inpatient admission. "

When is the start of a direct admission inpatient admission?

Per other CMS guidelines we are unable to bill Inpatient without a signed Inpatient order. Therefore, the start of a direct admission with orders waiting for the patient to arrive to their assigned bed should be signed off to starting the Inpatient Admission for this core measure. Please clarify if this is an accurate statement/start time.

What is considered the start of a direct admission inpatient admission?  Is it when the patient steps foot in the door or is it when the Inpatient Order is placed while in house?  Many orders are held prior to the admission and then started/signed once they arrive to the unit or bed. Needing to clarify the start time for vital signs and laboratory tests in regards to this core measure.
