Hello, We have patients admitted to the ED and placed on observation status. The weights were taken. However, some patients stayed at OBS status for more than 24 hours before finally being admitted to IP status. These cases became fallouts.
The timing logic for the weight does not align with most of the hospital's clinical workflow. Clinical staff are trained to get the patient's weight when they arrive. However, reweighing patients is not a 'standard workflow' or routine, like vitals and labs, unless the patient is on a strict daily weight. Hence, patients on observation status for more than 24 hours before being admitted as IP will be a fallout.
Is the weight specification being reconsidered to a timing that reflects the clinical workflow and does not create an additional burden to the clinical staff? Other hospitals are probably experiencing the same issue. Thank you in advance for your help.
