If a patient has a platelet count done and the result is not reportable because it is too low, then a platelet count fluorescent is done, which produces a result. Currently, there is nothing specific in the value set for platelet count that maps to this test. This test should be added as patients with a platelet count to low to report are falling out of the measure and can result in the lab requirement not being met.

    • Include a LOINC code for the PLT-F test and/or let us use an existing code to map this test.

We have patients falling out of the CMS844 - Hybrid Hospital-Wide Mortality measure due to a not reportable result for platelet count. The result is too low to report. When this happens, the lab does an additional test called platelet count fluorescent (PLT-F). Fluorescent dye specific for platelet organelles helps to evaluate platelet counts (PLT-F) which are much more accurate and specific in patients with low platelet counts as compared with conventional techniques. Currently, in the value set for platelet count, there is nothing specific to this test. My first question is can something that is currently there be mapped to this test? If not, then should something be included for this next mandatory reporting year as these fallouts can result in a downward payment if too many are missing a platelet count when in fact they are not.
