This measure excludes index admissions for patients:
admitted to a Prospective Payment System (PPS)-exempt cancer hospital;
without at least 30 days of post-discharge enrollment in Medicare FFS (in the case of patients who are not VA beneficiaries);
discharged against medical advice;
admitted for primary psychiatric diagnoses;
admitted for rehabilitation;
admitted for medical treatment of cancer; or
with a principal diagnosis code of COVID-19 (International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification [ICD-10-CM] code U07.1) or with a secondary diagnosis code of COVID-19 coded as present on admission (POA) on the index admission claim.
