Current specifications do not include which unit of measures are 'acceptable' for each of the data elements. In the 'Hospital IQR Program Hybrid Hospital-Wide 30-Day Readmission Measure Core Clinical Data Elements for Calendar Year 2018 Voluntary Data Submission' presentation done by CMS on 12/6/2017, slide 19 displays 'Unit of Measurements' (presentation attached). It was also mentioned during the presentation that the data elements should include the Units, and it would not matter if it was one of those on the list (i.e pound or kilograms was acceptable).
Can we get clarification if that is the case for all of the data elements? For example, White Blood Cells Count Lab Test, has unit = Cells/mL in the presentation, however, the test can have different 'valid' units (according to the LOINC codes), Cell/mm3 or 10*3/uL or 10^9/L or k/cumm).
Please let us know if it is the intend of the measure to collect the results for all of the elements, including the units, but do not restrict the results to only those listed in the CMS presentation.
Thanks.
