Solution: Thank you for your question regarding CMS122v12 Diabetes: Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) Poor Control (> 9%). A point of care test can indeed be counted towards HbA1c testing, provided the results are documented in an EHR via QDM datatype "Laboratory Test, Performed" using a LOINC code from the "HbA1c Laboratory Test" value set. The necessary documentation includes the laboratory test performed, the result, and the date of the test.

Please note that finger stick tests are permitted for HbA1c testing if the results are sent to a laboratory or provider's office for analysis and documented correctly.

Impact: I have a physician asking if a point of care test will satisfy this measure or if it has to be a blood draw? Please let me know if a finger stick test result would satisfy this measure or if we can only report results that are from a blood draw. Thank you
