Solution: | Thank you for your inquiry for CMS156v12: Use of High-Risk Medications in Older Adults. For patients who were prescribed with either Amitriptyline, found in the “Central nervous system, antidepressants” value set or Hydroxyzine, found in the “Anticholinergics, first generation antihistamines” value set to meet the criteria for Numerator 1, they would have to have at least two orders of medications from the same drug class on different days.
This means if a patient was prescribed a 10mg tablet of Hydroxyzine on 1/15/2024 and 25 mg tablet of the same drug on 3/12/2024, they would meet the criteria for Numerator 1. |

Description |
Regarding quality measure CMS156v11Use of High-Risk Medications in Older Adults; I am inquiring if all providers that are following the recommended guidelines for treating neuropathic itch and/or cough with Amitriptyline or Hydroxyzine; will they be penalized for using these meds to treat these conditions? |
