Solution: Thank you for your inquiry regarding CMS2v13: Preventative Care and Screening: Screening for Depression and Follow-Up Plan.


The measure does not exclude patients in palliative care, hospice or those who are currently deceased. All patients who have had a depression screening during the encounter or 14 days prior to the date of the encounter will be included in the denominator population. Only patients with a history of bipolar disorder are excluded.

Impact: Exclusions of palliative care, hospice and deceased patients are not included in the measure specifications. Is this an oversight?

Our clinicians do not address quality measures when a patient is receiving palliative care, hospice care or is deceased.  The measure stewards (CMS and NCQA) routinely list these statuses as exclusions. 

We are hoping this is merely an oversight.

Where should we submit the recommendation to add these patient statuses as exclusions for this measure.

 

Consistency in criteria across measure sets is extremely important.
