Solution: Thank you for your question. When the annual updates for 2022RY were done, code 243670 was not prescribable, so it was removed from the "Antithrombotic Therapy" valueset (oid: OID: 2.16.840.1.113762.1.4.1110.62). As you noted, it was added back to the 2023RY valueset because it changed back to prescrbable.
We recommend that you map 243670 map to another code within the value set for 2022 RY and then update the mapping for 2023 RY.

The medication value sets developed for the program contain RxNorm codes that are Semantic Clinical Drugs (SCD), generic, and prescribable. Semantic Clinical Drug (SCD) codes and are generalizeable drug concepts. Each RxNorm clinical drug name reflects the active ingredients, strengths, and dose form comprising that drug.

You can find more information about this in the eCQM Logic and Implementation Guidance located here: https://ecqi.healthit.gov/sites/default/files/eCQM-Logic-and-Guidance-v5.pdf in the section titled "Drug Representations Used in Value Sets". If there are relevant updates to RXNORM we will consider adjustments to the value sets for the next Annual Update.

Impact: Because RxNorm code 243670 for ASPIRN 81mg Tablet is NOT in the value set for RY2022, it's causing a fall out in our STK-2 eCQM reporting.

 Description

We have a patient that has Aspirin 81 mg tablet on her home medication list. She has been taking this medication for many years and it was added to her list back in 2019. The medication record has RxNorm code 243670 attached to in our EHR.

However, she is falling out of the measure STK-2 because this code is not in the current value set used for 2022 reporting year, published on May 06, 2021. I noticed the code is added back to the value set used for 2023 reporting year (published on May 05, 2022).

  • Medication, Discharge: Antithrombotic Therapy is this Valueset OID: 2.16.840.1.113762.1.4.1110.62

  1. Why was the code removed from the value set used for the current reporting year, 2022 and then added back?
  2. Can it also be added back to the value set used for RY2022?

We are unable to find an appropriate code that could be attached to the medication record in the current value set used for RY 2022.
